I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of Principal at North Presentation Secondary School, Farranree. I am conscious of the positive contribution that this school has made to the community, over the past fifty years, and I am happy to work hard to further that legacy. I have already had the opportunity to meet with the Parents Association, the Board of Management and many of the teachers and staff. I am looking forward to meeting the entire school community on the first of September.
I would like to ensure parents and students that all of the necessary procedures and protocols, are currently being put in place, to ensure the safe and secure reopening of the school. For the past number of weeks school management and staff have been working to ensure that the school is fully compliant with all aspects of the statutory requirements detailed by the Department of Education.
Personal protective equipment has been ordered for all teachers and staff. This will be delivered shortly. We are also waiting for the delivery of posters on handwashing, face coverings and other hygiene measures. In order to minimize the movement of people throughout the day, base rooms have been allocated to class groups. This means that students will remain in designated rooms for the duration of the day. The school is also been cleaned thoroughly and arrangements are being put in place to ensure that a deep clean of the premises takes place, on a daily basis. Training will be provided for teachers and staff regarding best practice. Hand sanitizers have been placed throughput the school and products to ensure that teachers desks and computers are cleaned daily have been purchased.
Each class group will be spoken to, in order to ensure that all students understand the need for effective hygiene practice and responsible behaviour. There is a responsibility on each one of us to do our best to ensure that North Presentation Secondary School remains a safe and healthy environment for all students and members of the school community. I would ask all parents to remind their daughters of this responsibility and the importance of the school Code of Behaviour.
The Department of Education have advised the school that no visitors can be allowed on the premises without a prior appointment to meet the Principal. This should be scheduled through the office, if necessary. I would also ask that parents speak to their daughters about the need to observe social distancing on their way to and from school. School breaktimes have been staggered to minimize contact, extra hours have been allocated to teachers in order to supervise students.
In the unlikely event that your daughter displays any symptoms of illness, she should remain at home and see a doctor as soon as possible. An isolation room has been arranged in the event of a student feeling unwell. It is essential that the school has up to date contact details for all parents and guardians. Please update the office immediately, if your mobile phone or address has changed. Copy books, pens and other stationery and equipment should not be shared by students. Teachers have been advised and will speak to all students. Extra guidance provision has been made to ensure that students feel supported.
Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to state how happy I am to work in this community and I look forward to encouraging the growth of the school, through working with all of our parents, students, teachers, staff, and community partners.
